July 2010 - Is there anything DuPont™
Corian® can’t do? In terms of design and architecture
the answer to that question continues to be expanded and at this
year’s 100% Design, creative duo KIWI&POM explore the
concept ‘inside and out.’
In an installation that re-invents the
idea of the garden room and makes a stand-alone studio space an
object of aesthetic desire, KIWI&POM have, quite literally,
driven this multi-talented, hi-tech material up the wall. And over
and down and around again, from interior to exterior. As a striking
and high-performance solution for interior cladding and exterior
facades, DuPont™ Corian® has already begun to make radical
headway, in typical trend-leading style.
By virtue of its extraordinary versatility
and an innovative fixing system, this world-class material now graces
the exterior of several high-profile international structures, including
hotels, a playground pavilion and several luxury villas. DuPont™
Corian® also makes a dramatic art of decorative wall-cladding
in many high-impact interior schemes, both residential and commercial.
For 100% Design 2010, KIWI&POM will
apply the material’s ingenuity to a sensuously curving façade
that wraps a studio style cabin, plus various integrated interior
elements, including storage and furniture. But it doesn’t
stop there. Of the many valuable functional properties of DuPont™
Corian®, its homogeneity, UV resistance, non-porosity and easy-care
durability make it ideal for garden applications and the project
will also include planters and beautiful, green ‘living walls’
by BioTecture.
Strong, radiant and sophisticated,
DuPont™ Zodiaq® quartz surface, also features in the scheme
as elegant ‘herringbone’ flooring and in furniture designs.
Look out also for some of the latest colour options for DuPont™
Corian®, including choices with recycled content, and for the
numerically inspired, digitally-carved 3D ‘Math’ collection
of decorative wall panels.
